Looser Bronze 50 (LB 50) - CuSn7Zn4Pb7-C-GS/GC/GZ DIN EN 1982

Looser Bronze 50 is a medium-hard multi-material tin bronze with a dense structure, good emergency running properties and high wear resistance. It can withstand high surface and frictional pressure. LB 50 is manufactured exclusively by centrifugal and continuous casting. The use of these modern casting techniques gives it a fine-grained structure. Looser Bronze 50 is resistant to seawater.

As a bearing material, LB 50 is superior to the sand-cast alloy GBz 14, which was long regarded as the best bearing bronze. Both qualities have comparable mechanical properties, but the sliding and emergency running properties of Looser Bronze 50 are significantly better.

With hydrodynamic lubrication and sliding speeds of up to v = 8 m/s, it can withstand loads of up to 12 N/mm².

Customer information RoHS Regulation ((EU) 2011/65 or 2015/863)

The above-mentioned regulations serve to restrict the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. If you use our material to manufacture products for other industrial segments, the RoHS Directive does not apply.
Our products comply with the RoHS Directive, which permits the following alloys, among others (non-exhaustive list)

Lead as an alloying element of copper with a proportion of up to 4 percent by weight. All bronze alloys in our range meet these requirements with the following exceptions:
– Looser Bronze 50
– Looser Lead Bronze 80 / 82 / 85.
For the products listed, the use of bearing shells and bushes is permitted. As a replacement for the Looser Bronze 50, we offer the Looser Bronze 50 lead-free. The range is constantly being expanded.

REACH

As a specialist in bronzes and copper alloys, Walter Looser AG is also affected by REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals).

REACH is a regulation of the European Union. It was adopted in June 2007 to protect human health and the environment from potential risks posed by chemicals.

In accordance with Article 33 of the REACH Regulation, we hereby inform you that semi-finished products and finished parts supplied by us contain an SVHC substance (Substances of Very High Concern) on the REACH candidate list, namely lead.

The use of lead in non-ferrous semi-finished metal products has been regulated for many years. The information obligation under REACH is not based on
new scientific findings.

However, lead remains an important alloying element for copper alloys. Lead-containing materials are tried and tested alloy systems that offer a
range of technological advantages. Among other things, lead increases the sliding and emergency running properties, improves the machinability and the
corrosion resistance of the finished component

Conflict minerals ((EU)2017/821 or DFA Dodd-Frank Act)

On January 1, 2021, the EU Regulation on Conflict Minerals came into force, according to which extensive due diligence and testing obligations along the supply chain become binding for EU importers of conflict minerals, namely tin, tantalum, tungsten, their ores and gold (3TG) as well as the extended conflict minerals cobalt and MICA.
Walter Looser's position on this matter and the handling of the regulation can be summarized as follows:

Walter Looser trades in semi-finished products and standard parts made of bronze materials and does not itself directly import the minerals concerned. We are therefore not directly affected by the regulation, but as a company in the downstream industry we are required to exercise due diligence on a voluntary basis. We consistently fulfill this duty in accordance with c).
Some of our products consist of metals or alloys that fall under the regulation. The proof of this is recorded in the test certificate with the declaration of the effective chemical analysis. This proof can be documented by ordering the test certificate for each delivered article. In the case of manufacturing processes based on scrap as a raw material, all alloy components have the status of origin «undeterminable» and accordingly, the products concerned are in principle entitled to be considered «conflict free».
The products in our range affected by the regulation are alloys with tin or tungsten as a component. These products are sourced from reputable manufacturers in the EU who have undertaken to comply with the regulation. Appropriate information is obtained from these suppliers and, to our current knowledge, none of our suppliers use materials originating from the countries defined in the regulation.
