Looser Aluminiumbronze 78-1

Looser Aluminium Bronze 78-1 (LAB 78-1) – CuAl11Fe6Ni6-C-GS/GM/GZ DIN EN 1982

Looser Aluminium Bronze 78-1 is an aluminium multi-material casting bronze with very high static and dynamic strength properties and is therefore suitable for very high surface pressures.
This construction material is highly resistant to corrosion and seawater and resistant to many acids. Good fatigue strength, very resistant to cavitation, high load capacity with good wear resistance.
Hollow profiles can be produced economically from Looser Aluminium Bronze 78-1 in the centrifugal casting process. For structural parts with less stringent requirements in terms of strength properties, cavitation and / or wear resistance, Looser Aluminiumbronze 75-1 should also be included in the evaluation.

The sample bar is removed from the casting in the case of centrifugal castings and continuous castings. The sample position – e.g. lengthwise or crosswise sample – must be agreed between orderer and manufacturer: the values specified in the table apply only to wall thicknesses up to 50 mm for the blank casting. In the case of wall thicknesses over 50 mm, with the wall thickness of the blank casting being the decisive factor, it must be anticipated that the strength and hardness values are lower. This applies in particular to the yield point.
It must not be expected that the strength and hardness values are uniformly high at all points of the casting. In general, the values in the outer layers will be higher than in the core zone.

Example uses

  • Plain bearings with very high impact loads, crank and toggle bearings with high load peaks (p up to 250 N/mm2).
  • The use of Looser Aluminium Bronze 78-1 for gear wheels up to medium speeds is a very significant application. Here, loads up to c = 60 N/mm2 can be sustained for a short time. Worm wheels, gear wheels, helical gear wheels and bevel gear wheels in machine tool construction and chemical plant engineering. Worm wheels for highly stressed construction machinery transmissions. Low noise gear wheels.
  • Internal parts for high pressure fittings in hydraulics, hot steam fittings and fittings for high water velocities.
  • Pump impellers, housings and bearings, Francis wheels and kaplan blades.

Machinability

Looser Aluminium Bronze 78-1 can be machined like steel with the same strength. This material is suitable for welding using certain methods, but not suitable for soft or hard soldering.

Sliding partners

Mating steel surfaces should be hardened and ground. Looser Aluminium Bronze 78-1 has no emergency running properties. Sliding parts require good lubrication.
