Caro Bronze

Caro Bronze – CuSn8P DIN EN 12163/12167/12449

The high quality sliding material Caro Bronze is a drawn tin bronze with special alloy purity and high tin and phosphorus content. The complex, qualitatively demanding manufacturing process with multiple cold drawing operations produces a tribologically advantageous, fine-grained, homogeneous structure, which provides the following positive material properties:

  • Excellent sliding and emergency running properties.
  • Insensitive to shock and impact stress.
  • High wear and fatigue strength.
  • High resistance to erosion and cavitation.
  • Corrosion and seawater resistance.

Caro Bronze is an ideal material for highly stressed plain bearings. The mechanical values remain practically unchanged up to 280°C. The manufacturing technology used for Caro Bronze guarantees tubes and bars of great precision and tight tolerances. This allows the smallest machining allowances. This means low material usage and reduced machining costs.

Notes:

In accordance with DIN EN 12449 respectively 12163 are different tempers properties for tubes and round bars defined. The listed condition from 460 N/mm2 respectively 450 N/mm2 is a great advantage for most applications between hardness and anti-friction property. Different parameters can be agreed and customer wishes can be considered.

Manchinability

Caro Bronze bars and tubes are precisely cold drawn with small diameter tolerances and are very suitable for processing on dispensing machines.
This tough, high strength material is not one of the easily machinable copper alloys and can form longer flow chips when turning. Hence the choice of cutting materials and the cutting geometry are of the utmost importance for the machining result. Ask for our machining sheet for Caro Bronze.
This alloy is suitable for welding; however, structural changes in the weld area cannot be avoided. Hard soldering is preferable. Corrosion-resistant, solid compounds can be achieved, preferably with low-melting silver solders.

Sliding partners

As mating materials, hardened steels are required for higher loads. For many practical applications, the surface roughness should not exceed around Rz = 2-4 microns.
